ETHNOLOGICAL DISPUTES
From 1994 the journal of Etnologické Rozpravy (later ED) substitutes for the internal informative non-periodical bulletin of Ethnographic Information published by (at the moment) Slovak Ethnological Society– NSS and Ethnographic Institute SAS (now Institute of Ethnology SAS). The first issue was published in 1969. The Slovak National Museum has recently joined the institutions participating in the editorial board. Slovak ethnological and anthropological museums, research and educational institutions participate in the bulletin creation through participation in the editorial board.
Being an important channel of communication between ethnological research institutions, university departments and museums, the bulletin attempts to provide up-to date information about issues, events, inspirations, and problems invaluable for a Slovak ethnographic and ethnological community. Ethnological Disputes focuses on two roles: On the one hand it provides information and news; on the other hand it publishes academic and semi-popular ethnological papers. Since 2004 Ethnological Disputes produce issues devoted to single topics.
Sections: Editorial (brief editors’ commentary on the issue); Studies (at least one academic study reviewed by two anonymous reviewers; texts have to focus on the main topic of the issue); Theme (the texts related to the main themes include papers, theoretical studies, translations of academic papers, interviews and more popular essays); Materials descriptive papers on material gained in empirical research); Discussions (reflections, annotations, critical reviews followed by the answer of the author); Comments (Readers’ comments on the previous issue); Reports (e.g. reports on conferences, exhibitions, researches, seminars, reviews and annotations of new publications by ethnographic and ethnological institutions in Slovakia).
